Donate to Northwest Harvest for one more way to beat Indiana on November 19th! All Big Ten clubs are competing again this year to collect as many food items as possible during a game watch event. All donations will go to Northwest Harvest, which provided 26 million pounds of food to Washingtonians last year. As for our group, the Big Ten clubs last year raised over 650 pounds of food, with Iowa leading the charge – let’s see if we can beat them this time around!
We’ll have boxes for your donations at Buckley’s for the Indiana game this weekend.
Here are the guidelines from Northwest Harvest on what to donate.
“Select shelf-stable food with the lowest saturated fats and refined carbohydrates (sugar, white flour). We buy white rice, beans, oats, pasta and tomato products in bulk, so we encourage you to donate other items.”
Here is a list of the most needed items.
General food items:
- Beef stew, chili and similar meals with low salt, sugar and saturated fats
- Canned fruit, especially with low sugar (but not artificial sweeteners)
- Canned fish or meat
- Peanut butter (plastic jars are preferred)
- Canned vegetables (low sodium)
Infant and baby supplies:
- Baby formula
- Jars of baby food
- Powdered or canned milk
- Infant cereal
